What is a pellet stove

A pellet stove is a clean and efficient method of home heating.

They produce much less pollution than a traditional wood-burning stove, by utilizing compressed and treated sawdust pellets as fuel. Pellet stoves utilize a forced air system that saturates the combustion chamber with oxygen, allowing for thorough consumption of the fuel. Pellet stoves are equipped with an automatic fuel dispensing system to feed pellets into the combustion chamber at a controlled rate, as well as an electronic control system to achieve the desired air to fuel ratio.
Unlike traditional wood-burning stoves, pellet stoves require an electricity source. This fact can sometimes limit their acceptable applications in rural or remote areas with limited or no power supply.

A joint program between the Renewable Energy Resources Division of the U.S. Department of Energy and the State of California’s California Technology Investment Partnership Program is working on developing self-powered pellet stoves that use thermoelectric technologies.
